Welcome to the WAVETRAIN Project Homepage.
The RTN WAVETRAIN Project had been established in order to encounter the multiple scientific and technological challenges that come along with the pre-commercial phase of ocean wave energy utilisation. Involving research entities, universities and enterprises developing wave energy devices, the project offered grants and contracts to Early Stage and Experienced Researchers. Among the essential tasks of the project’s work programme were: wave energy device modelling and design, assessment of power plants, device components and assessment of socio-economic and environmental impact.
The project was funded by the European Commission Sixth Framework Programme under the specific Marie Curie Action involved. The Marie Curie Research Training Networks (MCRTN) provided training through a network of institutions connected by their common interest in a research program. Apart from the work developed at the host institution, the training included short-courses and training-by-doing periods (secondments) at other institutions involved in the network, or even outside the network. The trainees were hired through contracts or grants and in some cases have been leading to the pursuit of Ph.D. degrees, although this was not a requirement from MCRTN. Wavetrain RTN finished successfully on February 29th, 2008. A follow-up project (Wavetrain2) is under negotiation within the FP7 People – ITN scheme.
Final project results are on its way. The following results of the Wavetrain project corresponds to the first three reporting periods: deliverables 3, 4, 5, 6, 7b, 9, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 (and an Extra-DEL UEdin), according to the work programme:
